Whether you believe in climate change or not, there is a simple reality - as humans we consume a lot of resources from this planet, at Allegr we think we should be mindful of this. We also believe in supporting UK businesses along the way.

Some research shows that the emissions coming from "the internet" and all its associated infrastructure is as polluting as air travel. Whether this is an overstatement or not is one for others to debate, we take a very straightforward view: Let's just reduce our impact.

We hear lots about "the cloud", this is clever marketing by an industry with an ugly problem. The Cloud is not a fluffy white object in the sky, it's actually made up of millions computers, huge farms of machines providing the computing services that we all rely on as consumers. All these machines consume electricity and produce heat - the amount is significant. Just think how many times you have to charge your devices for how much electricity is used.

At Allegr we wanted to make sure we did something about it, rather than leaving it others to solve.

We chose The Positive Internet Company for three reasons: real people, high security, and renewable energy supply.

Real People - one of the other aspects of "cloud" is you are talking to nobody, it's all help-desks and support chat bots. We believe in the power of people, so we wanted to a service provider that we could talk to, people we could meet face-to-face and would care about our business, your platform and us as human beings.

I’m clearly a big user of technology, I’ve worked in the industry for years… as soon as I spoke to Nick at The Positive Internet Company I knew we shared values. It was clear they cared about the technology, but also the business and the planet. Allegr and the Military App team are looking forward to working together in the coming months and years - Ben Burch, Co-Founder

Security - the internet is full of threats, it's a constant battle between those trying to help and those choosing to hinder. Again the team at Positive provide experience and reassurance, they are also based in the UK.

Renewable Energy Supply - our principle reason for moving away from a Cloud provider The Positive Internet Company data-centre. You see planting trees to offset is not a real solution, that is still a huge consumption of energy, you need to be more efficient, consume less in the first place. So not only do we know that our energy supply is renewable, but as important we know that the team at Positive will work alongside our developers to make sure our platform is as efficient as possible.

We’re really pleased to support the work of Allegr and the Military App.   As a responsible hosting provider, The Positive Internet Company recognise the importance of energy-efficiency across our platforms.

Data centres use a large amount of energy and emit more than one billion tonnes of CO2 every year. This is not sustainable, and we’re determined to be part of the solution.  Positive have pioneered our very own carbon-efficient data centre operations and hosting solutions that reduce our environmental impact. - Yasmin Aworer, Head of Business Operations

We are doing our bit, tiny perhaps, but still if everyone did a little but we'd go along way - at the end of the day, that's the power of community.
